My daughter Izzy is going to try to blog again. You can see her blog at Izzy’s blog.

She originally wanted a blog because her mom has one! And she would always bug me to add stuff to her blog too. Last year I sort of let it go because it was a lot of extra work for me. But now that she is a little older and making great progress in her reading, I want her to start doing some narration and creative writing too. The blog will be perfect for that!

Today I just asked her to give me a few sentences to type. She couldn’t think of much, so I typed the few lines she gave me and read them back to her. Then I found some pictures to illustrate what she wrote and suddenly she was more enthusiastic. I think if we do this a couple of times a week it will help her a great deal when she sits down to write or type out her own stuff.

This is NOT entirely my own creative thought. I was really inspired by Julie Bogart’s Writing Jungle. In that she wrote about how her own daughter became a reader and a writer by sending e-mails back and forth to her grandma. My mom doesn’t even own a computer, but I started thinking about how the computer could help and I came up with blogging.

(But favorite girl cousins- and you know who you are! If you want to start e-mailing Izzy, that would be cool too!)

I wrote about some other great narration ideas in this post. On rereading the list I’m getting some more ideas for Izzy and the boys as far as narrating what they read. Homeschooling can be soooo much more than just doing worksheets!
