Spread the love

Miss C. and I are slowly but surely making our way through 7th grade. It’s so interesting to listen to the things she is concerned about and see her progressing through the more difficult spelling and math problems. She is also doing a lot more writing too and I think she will be quite proficient at 3-paragraph fiction works by the end of the year.

But things are not going to be the same for us next year, or even the rest of this year. I have been asked to watch my new baby granddaughter while her parents are working. Of course, I will! I have homeschooled with babies before. But this is going to be a new challenge for Charlotte. If she had her way, I’m sure she would be loving on her baby cousin all the time! But alas, we do have to get some school work done.

The other big change is that the co-op I helped to build and have been a part of for 11 years, is moving to a different county. To get there, I would have to access one of the busiest highways in our area during two of the busiest times of day. I just don’t have the motivation to do that. I used to drive a big 15-passenger van all over NE Ohio and even down to Columbus taking kids on field trips, soccer games, and swim meets. I have no interest in that anymore.

It also takes the HOME out of HOMEschooling when you are driving out of the county to do it! At least that’s how it seems to me.

But Charlotte still wants to be with friends and going to co-op was a nice way to do that once a week. I know she will grieve the loss of the co-op she has been with since she was 3 years old. So I am doing something new –

I am starting a new homeschool co-op completely from scratch with a friend. This is not to compete with my old co-op. We are even meeting on a different day of the week. This is sincerely just to give Miss C. and friends a chance to keep meeting and dive into science, literature and history together. There will be an opportunity for some smaller stage productions too, which is something Miss C. absolutely loves to do.

The new co-op is Summit County Christian Homeschool Co-op. We’ve only got two things figured out: Where to meet and When to meet. We won’t have any other information until we know if anyone at all is interested.

This could end up just me and Miss C with a friend or two at my kitchen table! But I’m putting it out into the world in case, perhaps, there are some other middle-school/high school homeschoolers who are also looking to be part of a smaller co-op to support and learn together!
