Sam and I have used a variety of sources for high school literature. So far they have all been very helpful and enjoyable for both of us!

In 9th grade Sam was enrolled with Bravewriter’s Boomerang series
which he used for the entire year. It was his entire language arts program. We are also working through their Help for High School writing program.

Last year I found a number of study guides online for books I wanted Sam to read for American Literature. Then about midway through the year I found Lightening Literature and Composition for American Literature. We read all the books they suggested, and studied the information on each book and then Sam had a reading assignment for each book. I really felt that he had a good understanding of American Literature as well as exposure to a lot of different authors by the time he was finished.

This year we are moving on with Hewitt’s Lightening Literature and Composition for Shakespeare. But for the first part of the year he has enjoyed two online courses from Homeschool Connections. The first was on The Canterbury Tales and the second on King Arthur and Christ. Sam enjoyed both courses and did pretty well on the quizzes for each week’s lessons.

Next year I hope to tackle some World Literature and perhaps Christian Classics, but I will be very open to whatever else Homeschool Connections offers next year for its high school students.
