If there were any doubt that Carrie and MzEllen were anti-Catholic, this should dispel those doubts! The comment section where I/we get called “Elena and her gang of Catholic thugs” particularly caught my attention.

So I had to check out what we “thugs” actually wrote that caused so much “emotional blackmail.”

“She has to take the prayer time, minister to others, worship in community. She needs to feed herself spiritually. I recommend that her first move be to contact a sympathetic priest who can offer her some support and real spiritual direction.”

“What the reader is going through is VERY common. It’s been called “The Dark Night of the Soul” by St. John of the Cross. Don’t give in to despair! When you’re in the Dark Night you feel as if your connection to God has withered or dried up, you’re pressed from all sides in this life, and you feel overwhelmed. I know. I’ve been there too. It is at this point that prayer is your most vital tool. The connection is there, God is still in your life, but you are being challenged not to give in. It’s vitally important not to give up and leave the Church at a moment like this. Survive the Dark Night and you may well have more Grace in your life than you could ever imagine.

“Thank you for posting my comment and for your response Barbara. I am glad you were able to find Catholics who could help her. I would be happy to correspond with her or offer other assistance. I am in Ohio.”

“I’d recommend she find 15-30 minutes a day and TALK to God, even if she’s not
sure He exists.”

Wow. We were heartless wretches weren’t we?

I did exchange a few e-mails with the single mom who started this dialogue. She’s a nice gal and a fellow Ohioan. What really struck me was how she is not seeing an enthusiam for God that should she should be seeing from her fellow Catholics! She should see people actively striving for holiness with God as the center of our lives. We are a Eucharistic people and it really should show and it’s just not. We get bogged down in our everyday life and problems, and many times we take the Eucharist and the miracle available to us for granted. I know I’m guilty of that as well in my everyday life and I’m going to work on it. I’m glad then to have run across this dialogue starting on Barb’s blog. It’s a good reminder that the joy of being a Catholic Christian and the holiness of a Euchristic life is something to be shared.
