Despite having a bit of flood damage from Hurricanes Frances and Ivan, life here has just been full and I am simply trying to keep pace!

Everyday I try to get through my homeschool curriculum with my youngsters. I’m doing pretty good with the 6th grader and the 3rd grader, but I don’t always manage with my 1st grader and Kindergartner which makes me a little crazy. I need 12 more hours in my day- that should do it! Still I think I am getting all the basics if not all the stuff that sounds fun.

My 6th grader, who also loves to cook, is going to make fudge for science class today. No really… you make the fudge and then put half of it in the fridge and let the other half cool slowly and it is supposed to give you an idea of how rock formed from hot lava forms when it is trapped underground, or makes it to earth’s surface. Sounds interesting and fun – hope we get to it this weekend!

My oldest son has started high school at the digital academy but they aren’t giving him any work to do yet which I find just maddening!! If he doesn’t get his codes and assignments by Monday I will have to make a personal visit to his mentor and find out what the problem is! I mean, it’s the end of September, he should be logging in some serious hours by now.

My son is allowed to practice with the high school swim team, but the same injustice prevails there as with the soccer team- he can’t compete because he is with the district’s digital school. It’s like the school board considers the e-school the bastard child of public education or something – all the hassle, none of the perks.

He has been reffing some soccer games for CYO though. They must really be desperate for refs because since the season started last week, he has worked 7 games. At$20 a piece, that’s a nice chunk of change for a 15 year old!

Both of the docs I transcribe for are back and I have been attempting to keep up with them, getting up at 5:00 a.m. and then typing sporadically through the day. I am looking forward to the Thanksgiving break though as I think I might have a tad of tendinitis in my right arm and hand. I’ve been going through Motrin and Advil like candy.

This week was the full schedule- all 5 kids involved with soccer, all the art classes, all the piano lessons, all the school work, all the typing, and all of the housework. I’m not feeling overwhelmed- more just on autopilot. I started reading A Mother’s Rule of Life and it has had a very calming effect on my life and my attitude and I’ll probaby blog on parts of it after I read the book all the way through once.

So that’s my life right now.
