St. Veronica Costume

My daughter, Izzy, did not have a hard time deciding on a confirmation saint. She heard the story of St. Veronica when she was a little girl, probably during Lent when we went to stations of the cross. Something about the saint just spoke to her. So when she was getting ready to be confirmed in 8th grade, I asked her why she chose St. Veronica. She told me that essentially, Veronica was just a plain, simple girl. She didn’t do anything monumental or huge. She did something simple and with compassion – offering comfort to a man in great pain and suffering. Yet her very simple act did take some effort and courage. She could have been pushed or hit by a Roman guard. Maybe even she could have been accused as a follower of Christ. But Veronica did not let the ‘what if’s stop her from offering empathy and compassion to Jesus on the way to Calvary.

Veronica is the Patron saint of photographers and laundry workers – would be just about every mom everywhere wh has to do the family laundry!

Things to do today:

Say the stations of the cross, paying particular attention to the 6th station.

Look at some religious photography. I recommend Father Lawrence Lew over on Flickr.

Make a special effort to get your laundry done! If you are doing laundry for a family, pray over each basket for St. Veronica’s intercession for your family.
