I know a wonderful woman who immigrated to this country from Europe. She studied and met all of the requirements of this country and is now a naturalized citizen of the United States. She lives very simply. She owns a small home in an old neighborhood. She walks everywhere or takes the bus to the grocery store. Before COVID she had a job. She doesn’t have a television, computer, radio, or smart phone. She has a small sound system and listens to music, reads books, gardens and paints. She goes to church and confession and she prays. She is one of the most joyful people that I know.

I aspire to be this woman. And I think the best way to do this for my mental health is to rely on my children for all of my news information! They are plugged in, they can document everything they tell me, and it’s fun to listen to them! PLUS I love to listen to them discuss and debate among themselves. It does my heart good to know that I have raised such discerning young adults who care so passionately about the world around them. Plus, their commentary on such things is hilarious! Why should I listen to the legacy news and try to figure out what is spin and what is true? or listen to the commentators on the right that are so despondent right now it makes one want to take up drinking as a hobby?

Nope. It’s more fun to just get the info I need from my adult kids, listen to their thoughts, and follow the links and videos they send me. Plus, they have the best memes.

So this is what I believe being a Catholic Conservative means. It means Jesus Christ is my Lord, always. No matter what. It means I follow His teachings and example. I try to show love and respect to my fellow human beings in word and action, and I try to protect the weak and the downtrodden. I support life and mourn death while still honoring my beloved dead. I respect property and freedom.

Most of the conservatives that I know believe the same things. Even the conservatives who don’t share my Christian faith, in many ways, still live the teachings of Christ when it comes to respect for other humans.

On Facebook this week I wrote:

When conservatives protest, no one gets hurt, no property is damaged, and the garbage gets picked up.

Facebook January 6, 2021

I believe that because I have seen enough big rallies and demonstrations over the past decades with the March for Life to know that to be true.

What happened on Wednesday was outrageous and surprising. The turnout of course was amazing, but I do not believe that true conservatives stormed the Capital, damaged property and were disrespectful to police.

  • It’s been reported that leftists from the other side have come in and stirred things up before at other events.
  • We know that the police surprisingly ceded control of the Capital to the protesters and seemed unprepared for the throngs.
  • We also know that once inside the Capital building, most of the people were orderly with minimal damage done.
  • Five people died. One was shot. Another was a police officer but details are scarce. The others were medical emergencies and since many there were middle-aged and older, and the crowd would make it difficult for medical ambulances to arrive, I don’t think that should be surprising.
  • According to current reports, nothing was burned, the statues weren’t broken. There was some theft, but overall this was nothing compared to what we witnessed all over the country last summer.

People were there because there is evidence to support that this election was stolen. With COVID and all of the mandates that came with that, as well as all of the write-in ballots and other abnormalities, it is concerning.

But we will never be able to prove it. Certainly not by Inauguration Day.

Earlier, when the Texas Case could have gone to the Supreme Court, there were reports that Justice Roberts was afraid to take on the case because he was afraid of riots on the left. If anything good can come out of Wednesday, maybe it can be that in the future, he can also consider the reaction on the right.

And that’s why people showed up the capital in droves this week.

It is not inciting violence to insist that the election be investigated and held to the highest possible standard. That should be common sense and every American should be demanding that. And just to clarify, every single Republican in congress and the President condemned the violence.

As a refresher – this is what incitement looks like:

Chris Cuomo: Show me where it says protests are supposed to be polite ad peaceful.

Anyanna Presley: There should be unrest in the streets.

Nancy Pelosi: “I just don’t even know why there aren’t uprisings all over the country, and maybe there will be.”

Kamala Harris: The protests are not going to stop and they should not stop.

I actually read this on a blog:

Calling people out. If you voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and especially if you voted for him in 2020…YOU ARE COMPLICIT IN THE INSURRECTION THAT TOOK PLACE AT THE U.S. CAPITOL BUILDING YESTERDAY.

By that logic, Bernie Sanders should be held accountable for the baseball shooting?

I won’t link it because I don’t want to embarrass the blogger, but if that’s true, then I am going to hold YOU responsible to every crappy thing that’s about to go down in this country starting with the slaughter of the innocents as abortion ramps back up. Does that make you complicit for every life of an unborn child lost to abortion? Think it over.

I am of the mind that there’s not much we can do about it right now. But we have to make our own conservative infrastructure. Many have moved from Facebook to Me/We and from Twitter to Parler. More news choices are opening up including Daily Wire, The Blaze and Epoch Times. Conservatives have to flock to these new outlets and support them. We have to bother our congresspeople with e-mail and phone calls. Maybe that’s the only reason to keep a Twitter account is to contact them there as well.

We also have to start at the bottom and work our ways up. Start our own schools, encourage our children to go into education and educate the next generations. We need to homeschool our own kids and come along side new homeschoolers to help them. We have to be on school boards and coach children. This is a long game, not a short one. Liberals know that and have been doing it for decades. We have to start now.
