1. After hours, and hours, and hours of labor and turning in all of my paper work to the NCAA, we found out this week that Noah has been declared…

academically eligible to play sports for division 1 and division 2!

I’ll be blogging more on that later, but apparently, someone looked at the 95 pages of info I submitted, and decided that based on his ACT and his GPA, he could just have a waiver. And that’s good enough for us!

2. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, our health insurance has doubled in cost. I’m not sure how that makes it more affordable, but whatever…

Mr. Pete’s small business was late on the health insurance payemnt for March and Medical Mutual suspended us. But they didn’t tell us that we were suspended.  Instead, they kept billing us and we kept paying. Three months and $6000 later, Noah’s sports medicine doctor sent me a bill that had been rejected by our insurance company!  That’s how we discovered that we were no longer insured.

After some negotiation, Medical Mutual told us that if we were on time for the July payment, they would consider reinstating us.

This was Mr. Pete’s “WTF” moment.

Luckily, I was able to find a wonderful insurance broker who came to the house and got us a temporary policy for six months. AND it’s $500 cheaper per month than what we had been paying. The broker also told us that our story is not unique; she has a lot of clients who have been in the same boat.

So Medical Mutual will be sending our $6000 back. Hopefully they will do that soon, but as this is the summer of “hurry up and wait,” I’m not holding my breath.

3. I’ve been blogging about the shameful abortion ruling from the Supreme Court all week.

A friend of mine came up with these great mottos:

Abortion – instead of  “safe, legal and rare!”  Now “whenever, wherever, however!”

or

“Kermit Gosnell, in the back alley, for $500”

4. Wedding season starts for me this weekend  – as a facilitator today and then as an aunt in a few weeks. Then I have four or five weekends in a row with weddings this fall, which will greatly help with paying for the girls’ art classes.

Now, for the most part, I like helping people with their weddings. Most people have been very, very sweet and kind and it’s been an honor to help them.

But there were two or three that were so disagreeable that they make me a little wary before starting the season up again.

For example, a few years ago, there was a mother of the groom that verbally abused me so vehemently, that the bride’s parents came over to put their arms around me and tell me how sorry they were!  She did this twice – at the rehearsal and on the actual day of the wedding.

There was also a time I found the groom and his groomsmen around a table in the sacristy drinking just before the ceremony.  When I broke it up, told them they weren’t allowed to drink on church property and that they were needed to escort guests into the church, one of the men stood up right next to me, nose-to-nose and threatened to punch me in the face.

He didn’t. The groom called him off. But those two events have left me a little skittish.

5. I’m trying to keep Miss C. happy every afternoon with some kind of activity, whether it be the lake, library movie, or a library show!  So far, this has been my favorite photo of Miss. C at the library show!

6. This week was the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul. Unfortunately, we were so busy with the insurance mess that I didn’t have time to fix a proper fish dinner! Instead, I served goldfish crackers – and everyone seemed pretty happy with just that!

7. I try not to violate the privacy of my older children. I tell my story, but sometimes they are just part of that story.

A few weeks ago, someone came up to Gabe and said they recognized him from the blog.  Then they asked him about the dinner we had, because he saw what I had posted in one of my Simple Woman posts!  He was a little freaked out by that, but I am always glad to meet people in real life who read my blog!
