Those that have been following my series on Samuel Gipp’s Book and my dialogue (more like a monologue) with Candy Brauer can rest easy this week. Candy has opted not to launch into the next chapter.

I do however have some comments about last week’s chapter. One of Dr. Gipp’s biggest points last week was an exercise in logical fallacies. It goes something like this:

Alexandria Egypt – Pagan, bad. Therefore –
Scripture written in Alexandria Egypt must also be bad.

See here for examples of this fallacy here and here probably here too.

Preparing for this week’s chapter, I also came across some other interesting resources that the discerning reader (i.e. someone who doesn’t just take Candy’s or Dr. Gipp’s word for things) might want to investigate.

Hip and Thigh
Did the Catholic Church Have Its Origin in Paganism? (This Rock: May-June 2005)

Also I got a link from Kelly over on the Candyland blog, that Rev. Ralph Woodrow has recanted one of his previous booksthat claimed Catholicism was really Paganism. I found this to be a very intereting development. There was no mention of it by Mrs. Brauer.
