Just a quick posting to let you all know that my niece Mallory is going to spend her spring break in Baku, Azerbaijan. No “girls go wild”, frittering away of free time for this one. She is going to make her time count and I couldn’t be more proud fo her.

A little rusty on where Azerbaijan is? So was I.

Yep, borders with Iran. Gulp.

This is what Mallory told me:
We will primarily be encouraging the long-term missionaries already there and helping them out with the work they have been doing this year. We’ll be continuing Jessica’s work at the orphanage and serving Azeris on college campuses — sharing the gospel and teaching English classes. We’ll also be bringing them some supplies so that they can continue, and taking some things back home for them at the end of the trip.

I am going as a “vision trip” – to see what it’s like to work alongside full-time missionaries serving the practical needs of a community outside of our nation’s borders; and also to see God’s global perspective grow up in me – how He is loving the people of every tribe, tongue, and nation!

I will be able to e-mail you again from a cyber cafe in downtown Baku sometime between March 16 and March 23 to update you on what we’re doing.

In the meantime, I would really appreciate it if you could be praying for me! Here are our requests; if you could pick out one or two to be praying for, or if you would like to pick out a name from the list of girls going, I would really appreciate it! This is our biggest need right now.

Prayer requests:

*safe travel
*good health for each of us
*safety while staying in Baku
*effective service for the children at the orphanage in Baku
*open hearts among the Azeri students attending our English classes

Thank you each so much. I can hardly believe that next time I will be emailing you from Baku!

I’ll keep you all posted on her adventures as I hear them. Please keep my niece in your prayers.
