Next Saturday is All Saints Day!
In my city, trick-or-treating is tonight in all the neighborhoods. Miss C. is going with her mom, and then she is coming here later to watch a scary movie. I’m thinking she might be old enough for The Lady in White, which is one of my favorites.
But next week is All Saints Day, and we will celebrate that as well. Our homeschool group is hosting a party the day before. We will have our usual hike. Then, we will come back to the lodge we have rented. We will enjoy treats by a cozy fire.
My decorations at home will change too. Right now it’s decorated with a few jack-o-lanterns and scary cats. But on All Saints Day I will have saints pictures up, a new tablecloth, and be ready to celebrate the feast day.

My fall projects
I have two big events coming up. Next month is the baby shower for my daughter-in-law. She is now around 30 weeks and we are all so excited for the big event. Our side of the family is in charge of decorations. I’m pondering the different things that I want to do for it. I’m planning on a balloon arch and a special mural to go underneath it. The theme is Winnie the Pooh. Hopefully my daughters can help me out with the centerpieces.
The biggest problem I have for this is that both of my daughters ARE in the middle of their college semesters. They are both working so hard it will be difficult for me to get their help. I know I can do it on my own, but they are both such talented artists, I just think they could do a better job. I am craftsy. They are artsy. There is a difference!
My other big project is helping Izzy with her big research paper. The topic is 1990’s art history, focusing on the documentary. It’s really hard to get excited about something I don’t really care about. But I’m already dutifully pulling together some articles and books for her to use. Luckily, her professor gave her some good leads to follow up on.
Life online
I will have limited time to play on social media for a while. I did get into a discussion with a very famous homeschool author about the White House Ballroom going up. I tried to stay focused on the project itself.
It never occurred to me before why there isn’t a big inaugural ball at the White House. Partly, this is because there isn’t a venue at the White House big enough to host such an event! As a Kennedy aficionado I always marveled at the idea of Jackie Kennedy traipsing around Washington DC to attend the Inaugural balls. This was just a few weeks after having a Cesarean back in 1960. It would have been so much easier to have it at the White House.

I support this project because it just seems to me that we should have a state-of-the-art ballroom for large functions. It is the people’s house, but it can’t really house that many people for an event.
Currently, we bring in tents for big gatherings. But after all of the violence this year, from Charlie Kirk’s assassination to the shooting of school children in a church, I think we can agree that we need a safe venue. This could be that.
By the way, the author (a staunch liberal) mentioned above has written a book on critical thinking. The author promotes curiosity and encourages asking questions to build understanding. I saw none of that in our exchange. Now I’m curious about what she wrote in her book and if her idea of critical thinking is the same as mine.
Lastly, a fall picture
Miss C. asked me to take a photo of this lovely place when we were hiking. So I did.
