O Adonai

Today, Day two of the O Antiphons, we remember God as the ruler of Israel, the leader who got His people out of Israel and gave them freedom through His holy commandments.

O sacred Lord of ancient Israel, who showed yourself to Moses in the burning bush, who gave him the holy law on Sinai mountain: come, stretch out your mighty hand to set us free.

But here’s the thing – following the commandments is not ever easy and sometimes it’s not very fun. This clip of God speaking to Moses is an example of that. Moses is a great prophet, but as a flawed man, even he did not want to accept God’s will for his life.

Tonight as we pray the antiphons, we think about our own lives, what we are called to do, and what we can do this Christmas time to more closely God’s will in our own lives. Use these last dark days to shine the light on our own shortcomings and clear them away in preparation for our Christmas Celebrations.

Ways to Celebrate

  • On this night we have our favorite Buffalo Chicken Dip – aka Hot Spicy Chicken Dip. It has just enough burn in it to remind us of the burning bush!
  • It’s also a good night to re-read the story of Moses and the burning bush.
  • How about seeing who can remember all ten commandments in order!?
  • If it’s not too cold – a good night for an outdoor bonfire, or a fire in the fireplace if you have one.
  • Be able to find Mt. Sinai on a map!  One year we made a relief map of the holy land including Mt. Sinai – this would be a good school or PSR project!
  • Perhaps plan a bush to plant in the spring.
  • Take care of your hands! Make your own hand lotion. Strengthen your hands and wrists.
  • Using the 10 commandments, write a personal examination of conscience in your own hand writing.
