Last week I attended two COVID-era weddings. The first one, I was the wedding coordinator for. I had worked at a wedding at the end of May for the church. There were no masks (although masks were made available) and no one even pretended to social distance. I had a mask on the ready, but I never wore it because the bride and her family were happy not to have them.

This wedding was the complete opposite of that wedding. Everyone was masked. People went down the aisle wearing a mask. There was assigned seating to make sure that social distancing was observed. It was a beautiful wedding, the bride was gorgeous, but it definitely had a unique feel to it.

That evening we attended a wedding reception for another couple. That was interesting too. All of the tables were spaced six feet apart. You did not have to wear a mask as long as you were seated. When it was time to eat, we put on our masks and went up to the buffet where workers put the food on our plates for us – one worker for each menu item. The couple did cut the cake and individual plates were put out for that. There was the traditional brides’ dance, groom and mother, bride and father, and then that was it. No one else was on the dance floor. Everyone went outside to play games like corn hole and frisbee. I thought that was a great way to social distance and still have some fun.

Although Rosie is back running, she may not get a chance to compete. The school board voted on Monday night to cancel all practices and games until October 1. The kids can still practice as friends if they organize it, but there are no coaches and it is totally an on-your-own kind of thing. We don’t even know if it will come back in October because that would only leave a few meets for competition.

This is ridiculous. The best way to fight any type of infection is to be healthy with a healthy immune system. Being outside and getting physically fit is the best way to do that. Plus being in the sun and getting all of that Vitamin D and sweating … these are the best things for our kids. Not forcing them into their homes again in front of a computer screen for nine hours with no opportunities to participate in physical activities with their friends.

The response to COVID is worse than the actual disease!

A great start! #crosscountrymoms #crosscountry #running

My homeschool Co-op is planning to open in a few weeks. Half of the families from last year left. But we still filled up with brand new homeschooling families. We are wearing masks into the building and in the hallway and in the classroom except for active water drinking and frequent mask breaks as prescribed by the new health order. Teachers are going to try to separate the students as much as possible, and we are sanitizing everything all day long. We are going to have temps taken as everyone enters the building. I feel that we are being very compliant and as safe as possible.

I only have 12 students in my Five in a Row Class. I plan to have them do a lot of activities at their seat and I plan to social distance, but I am not going to wear my mask all of the time so that they can understand my instructions more clearly. I also hope to get them outside a lot!

In preparing for my class this week, I met with my helpers at a friends house and took Miss C. with me. She has a little friend is about her age and they had not seen each other since March. They smiled and ran to each other then Miss C. picked her friend up, and her friend picked her up. Then they ran off together to play. Her mom quipped, “Why don’t we greet each other that way?” The idea of grown women trying to pick each other up is hilarious, but apparently 6 and 7-year-olds just need to check each other out that way!

I lost a friend this week. No one died. I’m not really sure what happened. I’ll have a post about it on Catholicmom on Tuesday.

Hey, I had someone impersonating me on Instagram this week! They even stole some of my photos. It took me two days to get them removed. For the record, my real IG account is here!

This reminds me, Rosie is reading Brave New World this week and then she will start into American LIterature. Noah felt that he was very well-read before he went to college and my two sons that went right into the working field have been able to draw on the reading we did in homeschool (mainly Steinbeck) with friends, acquaintances and customers. Even kids that don’t go on to college, should read widely!
