1. Rosie Art – This is Rosie’s latest piece of artwork. She’s been working on it weekly at art class for a few weeks now. I absolutely love the aquatic theme. Nice Job Rosie!

That was a tough, tough race, and she worked hard for it, so I’m happy they awarded it to her. Rosie medal in the 800 meter Her track coach totally understood how her growth spurt affected her time and she told us both that if she keeps with the program, and works hard, she should have a really nice high school career with a peak senior year. That made Rosie very hopeful for high school running. 3. Tomorrow is the homeschool dance and Rosie will be officially done with her homeschool year and my job as chauffeur and keeper of the schedule will slow down a little bit.

After the new year, Macy’s had a huge sale and I was able to get Rosie three beautiful dresses, for under $150 for all of them. So she will debut one of the dresses she has never worn before to the dance. The other two she wore for confirmation and her piano recitals. We also have two weddings coming up this year and she will be able to wear them again for that. It truly paid to shop ahead.

4. I learned some difficult things on Facebook this week. One of my cousins (first cousin once removed) and I had a conversation about the usual Catholic/Protestant things – mainly Mary and the Pope. And I found out that the bad feelings towards Catholics in the family ran kind of deep!

“My mom schooled me to never become Catholic, ‘You must never marry a Catholic…’ I heard about how she laid in her bed at night in this old house listening to her father, Grandpa Dan, adamantly oppose men who were bringing about a schism in the Brethren Church-one of them was his brother George.

Sometime back then he, without apology, told his second oldest, with his wife at the Sunday dinner table, that he was going to hell because he was Catholic (I do not know of Grandma ever disagreeing with that-

The second son and his wife would have been my grandparents, the folks that took in my mom after her marriage failed and helped to raise me and my sister. So that was a little jarring and I guess I can understand a little bit more about my grandma’s ill feelings towards her inlaws!

5. Because Rosie is going to be an official high school student, I ordered her four-year planner. I used this with my other kids too and I’ll probably blog about it later. What I loved about this planner is that if you are diligent about filling it out and actually using it, it can be a great way to keep track of your high school experience and documenting all of the work you do. I highly recommend this one.

6. I’ve been typing for Rev Transcription now for over six months. Last week I finally got a compliment from a customer. They rated me a 5 out of 5 and said the transcript was accurate and quick!

I have over 1000 audio minutes done so far and this was the first customer evaluation of my work, which made me think about all the times I’ve been asked to fill out a survey, or rate the performance of a customer service person who has helped me.

Most of the time I do, but a lot of times I don’t. It felt so good to get positive feedback from a customer that didn’t hinge on anyone else’s evaluation, that I’m going to be sure to pay that forward the next time I’m asked to rate a service!

7. My kids have something special planned for my birthday this weekend. I’m not exactly sure what they’ve got going on but they seem excited about it. When I turned 40, I remember sitting in my room thinking that I didn’t feel any different. I still felt strong, healthy and energetic. But this birthday feels different. Maybe it’s because we just lost Pete’s little brother to cancer a few weeks ago. Maybe it’s because I now have a legit chronic illness. Or Maybe it’s because the 10-year anniversary of my mother’s passing is coming up. I don’t know, but I’m more introspective about this birthday. Maybe that’s a good thing!
