Outside My Window

I am thinking…

about how busy I will be this fall – but I am still determined to get all of my Christmas Shopping done before the first week of Advent!!

I am thankful…
for this girl.

I wish I could tell you how impressed I am with her. She and her friend have been running together since 3rd grade. They used to take turns winning races. They raced together, they trained together and they kept each other motivated. They both won top 10 medals three years ago.

But Rosie grew a lot last year. She is almost taller than me now and I’m 5 foot 6. She also gained about 25 pounds. Nonetheless, Rosie trained all through the fall and winter, she ran track, and then she ran all summer long. So did her friend.

This cross country season, Rosie’s friend went on to win two races and always finished in the top 10.

But Rosie’s times kept getting slower. She came in 43 at last year’s championship. This season every race was really, really hard to watch. At the championships, she came in 83. Her gorgeous stride and technique were there, but she just wasn’t as fast. This is NORMAL for a girl that has grown as much as she has. For a lot of girls, this happens in high school. For Rosie, it has happened in 8th grade. It might happen again if she has another growth spurt.

Rosie also watched the 7th graders and a 6th grader pass her by. She wasn’t even the 5th girl on the team anymore. But she was always pleasant and a good sport. She supported her team members even when she was sad inside. You can’t train for that. There is some kind of inner strength there. Her teammates love her for it. That was a huge contribution to the team this year.

She still has her love of running. If she is patient, and just puts in the time, she will be rewarded. And we will love and support her through it all.

I am pondering…

What else I need to do to get Noah’s financial aid done for his senior year! I’ve completed the FAFSA. Now I just have the paperwork for the university.

One of my Favorite Things…

These great mugs I picked up at CVS!  They were only $2 each so I got 12 of them. They are pretty and functional!

In the kitchen…
Turkey!  That was on sale this week.

I am wearing…
Black Hanes Sweat Pants and a thermal purple shirt.

I am going…

  • Walking, exercising, weight lifting and ab work as much as possible. I’m trying to make every walk a 3-mile walk in about an hour.
  • PrayMoreNovenas.com but really trying to pray the rosary more this month.
  • to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan recommendations and Intermittent Fasting.
  • Working on the “lose the mummy tummy” goal. I’ll be documenting that more in a special e-mail list. If you’d like to follow the ups and downs of that, click here.
  • More flute practice in this week. I will be back to playing for church maybe this week.
  • Prepare my labs for Wednesday for my science class. I have 2 experiments this week and we are going to go over how to do a lab report!
