I am thinking…

september 2016 013

about the powerful liturgical week we just had – from the Cosmos and Damian through to the Guardian Angels.

I’ve also been thinking about praying for a flower miracle from St. Theresa -I’m just not sure which special intention to ask for!

I am thankful…
to be part of a church that has such deep richness in it – from scripture to Sacred Tradition to even the little cultural norms that can permeate our domestic church if we let them.

We did finally have our angel hair pasta dish – but we had it on Sunday afternoon on what would have been the Feast of the Guardian Angles if the day hadn’t fallen on a Sunday. I went to mass on Saturday night and made the food first thing Sunday morning.  Then Izzy put everything into the oven while we were at the track meet.

Gabe came over with Miss C, my goddaughter was home for the weekend, and Noah was with us as well. My godson even managed to make it over a little later. It was a nice day.

I am pondering…
the best way to mentor my daughter, the runner. She is talented enough and has the gifts of a good long distance runner. I can make sure she is nourished and healthy, and that she has all of the right equipment. But I can’t get into her head and I can’t make her want it. I can’t even make her want it for me – which she shouldn’t anyway.  If it is in her to be a champion runner, then it has to be something she wants and something she sacrifices for. Today she finished 11th, and out of the top 10 for the first time this season.  11th place means she won’t get a medal at the championships and it will be just like last fall when she finished one place out of the medals – it was heartbreaking.

But Mr. Pete I think actually said the best things to her. He said something like.

“Rosie, I know how hard you worked all summer to get ready for this season, and how hard you work at every practice. It might be that other girls worked just as hard, or are just as talented, or even worked harder and are more talented. But I don’t know honey… if it were me… if one of those girls started to pass me I would get mad.  I would think to myself, ‘They don’t deserve that spot more than I do.’ And then I’d think, if they were going to run in front of me and take my placement away, then they were gonna have to fight me for it. I wouldn’t make it easy for them. I’d fight hard to keep my place. I wouldn’t just let them pass me.  There’d be a struggle!! That’s what I’d do.”

I think she’s been thinking about that the rest of the day.

I am hearing…
the air conditioner.

In the kitchen…
Left overs from our big Angel Hair Pasta dinner that we had as part of the Guardian Angels feast for lunch.  Probably sloppy joes for dinner!

I am wearing…
black yoga pants and black knit top.

I am going…

  • to walk or work out every day with Pfilates . I have to include some arm work out with this.
  • Hoping to amp up my prayer life this week .
  • to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan  recommendations.
  • See Rosie race on Sunday and Noah race on Saturday.
  • Start some heavy duty flute practice.
  • Get ready for a doctor’s appointment next week to figure out some problems I’m having with my arm.
  • Continue taking all of the staples out of the floor at the flip house!

    A quote to share…

“Hey, ol’ Ma,” he said at the door. “I like you, Ma.”
“You and them hounds and all the rest o’ the stock,” she said. “Mighty lovin’ on a empty belly and me with a dish in my hand.”

“That’s the way you’re purtiest,” he said, and grinned.
