1. Set up a Facebook Account for my daughter. Her cake teacher suggested it and told us to make sure that we put all of her cakes on there so that friends and family can see them and then maybe, just maybe, she can start to make a name for herself as the go-to person in our niche for cakes. I told her to start thinking of designs for first communions and confirmations because that’s something that local bakeries don’t really do a lot of. So she has one now and I put a lot of pictures on there for her and she was thrilled. My baby girl is growing up.
This is her first cake that she did completely alone- made the cake and filled it, made the butter cream frosting and frosted it and then made those little roses and wrote “Happy Birthday” – these were all firsts for her!
She also passed Wilton Cake Decorating level 1 and her teacher told her to keep hold of her certificate because bakeries really look for that when they go to hire help.
2. I use Facebook for my job as the church wedding sexton (aka wedding rehearsal runner and general all round go-to person for the bridal party, friends and relatives to come to for two days). In the old days (before Facebook) I usually talked to the bride or groom over the phone and had no clue what they looked like until I met them the night of the rehearsal. NOW I can look them up on Facebook and get some idea of who I am looking for. This helps me feel less stupid since I don’t have to inquire of each young lady that comes through the door, “are you the bride?”
3. I have noticed a difference in the 20 somethings that are getting married and the older 30 somethings. The older 30 somethings seem to be a little bit more irreverent about the whole tuxedo, dress/veil thing. A couple of times I have seen groomsmen wearing sneakers to go with their tuxes. It looks – weird.
Look guys- there are only a couple of times you will get to wear a tuxedo. You can always wear sneakers – think about it.
4. One of my young friends who decided to go down the induction path to childbirth ended up with a C-section. That’s unfortunate. It was also avoidable but I guess ladies have to figure this stuff out for themselves. Now this week I was reminded of the other complication from all the medical interventions and surgical delivery – difficulty with breastfeeding.
That’s one of those things that I am sure gets glossed over during the “informed consent” portion of a a hospital birth.
5. And here’s a clue- don’t ask for breastfeeding help on Facebook, because you will get all kinds of bad advice as well as testimonials from all of your friends entitled “Breastfeeding didn’t work for Me.” Examples of bad advice? Mixing formula with breastmilk because after all, formula was made for babies too!, using a nipple shield, and feeling like a failure for only being able to pump an ounce of milk – as if being a good pumper had anything to do with actually nursing the baby! I was terrible at being able to pump milk, but nursed all of my babies exclusively and they were all in the 90th percentile for weight, chubby and healthy. And that is afterall, what counts.
6. Rosie’s went to craft camp this week at Pat Catans and loved it! Here are her garden fairies and flower pot from today’s crafts. 
7. There seem to be a lot of conservatives actively taking part in discussions over at the Huffington Post these days – a turn of events that I welcome. Here is one of my favorites, Carroll27, handling an anti-Catholic attack.
You sound like a supporter of the Catholic church. But how am I anti-Catholic, because I question the church’s authority? I am not a racist, so I would have no need to of participated in the Greensboro masacre, if that is what you were talking about. Plus who is to say that the Catholic church is not prejudice? They are the ones who strongly supported Amendment one, along with most of the evangelicals. Do you even live in Greensboro, or at least North Carolina? Because otherwise you have no idea.
