1. So tired of the heat! Mr. Pete wants to run up to Lake Erie just about every night- but it’s about an hour away and the round trip is about $20 for gas, so I have to put the breaks on that!! Maybe he would be agreeable to one of those big inflatable pools in the back yard to cool off in? To make matters worse for Mr. Pete, his plantar fasciitis is kicking up on one foot while his gout is flaring on the other. But he tells me that once he gets his feet in his shoes he’s good for the day. I foresee a trip to the sports medicine clinic in the not too distant future.

2. Mr. Pete did take some time off today to see his kids take their last swim class of the year!

They did very well.  Izzy and Noah were in level 5 but they took the level 6 test and they both passed it!  So I’m not quite sure what we will do with then next year.  And Rosie is now in level 2!

3.  Izzy took her third cake decorating class yesterday.  Here are the results!

4. One of the young ladies I mentioned went in to be induced on Tuesday.  All day Wednesday I kept checking my e-mail and Facebook to see if the baby had arrived. I mean surely if you go in on the 3rd of July to be induced you should have a Star Spangled delivery right?  Well the little one didn’t come until sometime in the wee morning hours of July the 5th.  That’s a long induction labor folks. I haven’t heard any of the birth story yet but so far they seem enamored with their baby which is a good thing.

5.  I did mention to one of my OTHER pregnant young friends that this other gal had a two day labor after induction at just barely 41 weeks.  This young lady seemed more inclined to avoid that.  We’ll see.  In the meantime I watched a Baby Story with Izzy and started to impart all that I could about medical inductions.

6.  This particular episode didn’t disappoint.  After pushing for about half an hour, the baby’s heart rate got into the 180s and the doctor recommended a Cesarean – because God forbid we should have the mom try changing positions like standing up or squatting to get her baby out.  Major surgery and Major medical bills seemed to be the only alternative this t.v. doc seemed to be familiar with.  I started ranting about how pushing in the lithotomy position is unnatural and goes against the natural inclination to birth standing up… I’m not sure if I impressed or scared my daughters.  I did decide right then and there that both of them are going to take a midwifery course as part of their high school experience.

7.  My sister is getting married in September and I am going to be her attendant.  I’m thrilled to do it of course but it occurred to me that the last time I was an attendant at any one’s wedding was over 20 years ago.  I was younger, thinner, and my hair was very dark!   I’m a little nervous about pulling it off.  Luckily I get to pick out my own dress and as the wedding is in September it should be cooler than it is now.
