Celtic Cross from scenic Glendale Cemetery, c/o Sparrow Girl Ohio Flickr Group.

There are at least 60 Celtic crosses in Ireland, as well as a numbers of ruins.  The Celtic crosses that are seen today were primarily commissioned and constructed up until the mid 12th century.  After the end of the 12th century, construction of these crosses all but disappeared.
These wonderful crosses were normally used as boundary markes, for example where parishes intersected, or as monuments surrounding monastaries, cathedrals, or churches.  Contrary to some beliefs, they were not used as gravestones, but newer crosses have enjoyed increased popularity as gravestones since the 1850’s.
The beauty of these crosses is not just in their basic shape, but also in the intricate carvings found on many of them.  The level of detail, and the quality of the artwork is something that is normally associated with treasured manuscripts, such as the Book of Kells.

I am thinking…
about the very busy weekend we just lived through.  On Friday night, Noah was confirmed.

On Saturday night, I played the flute for an Irish Dance Performance and on Sunday I performed again with The Peace Together Choir, a very full weekend indeed.

I am thankful for…
For Noah- the freckled, dimpled, blue-eyed boy that I never could have imagined. What a total gift he has always been to me.

From the kitchen…

Pot roast and vegies.

I am wearing…
Black paints, t-shirt and sweater  My new washing machine broke which was very aggravating!!   It is still under warranty though so Sears is coming out tomorrow to fix it ( or tell me that they need to order a part and make me wait even longer before I can do laundry!)

I am creating…
a clean laundry room. Nothing like knowing the repair guy is coming to make sure the place gets cleaned up!

I am going…
to get four workouts in this week.  Only got three in last week, but we went to a funeral out of town on Tuesday and so I had to make some adjustments.
Last week I did:

I can just about make it all the way through this one without stopping.  That my goal for this week.

I am reading…

I am hoping…
Noah and Gabe get Moby Dick THIS WEEK.  They are indeed reading along with Libra Vox.

I am hearing…

a silent house.

Around the house…
we are just keeping on with the silence and simpleness of Lent.
