Spread the love

Outside my window
Rainy, cool and drab – the beginning of fall.

I am thinking…
about something interesting that happened to me on Saturday. I was walking in the park behind the cross country team, deep into country side, being careful not to trip over on any roots or to slide down the hill on a pile of wet leaves. I had my MP3 player going and was listening to one of Cindy Rushton’s talks about loving your children and letting them find their way, and thinking about how my own kids were doing, and the choices my oldest two were making. Of course I was also thinking back to my own mother and my adolescence. And then Cindy said something about how it is all part of love and loving, and I felt very overcome with love – love for my children and family, and grateful for the love I had with my own mother. At that moment I looked down and found the most unusual rock. I picked it up and carried it with me for the rest of the walk, then brought it home and washed it off. Coincidence?

I am thankful …
for love. Love is the only thing that matters or lasts. Love extends through years and even beyond the grave.

From the learning rooms
But as that computer is about 7 years old or so, I think what I want to do is have the kids finish up their Rosetta Stone Latin 1 and then perhaps I’ll get a newer computer for that room for their studies.

Noah and Gabe are also working on Early Church History course from Homeschool Connections.  They still don’t like it!  I’m going to give it a deeper listen this week and see what I think.

We are also going back in American History to pick up the colonies and the Revolution.

Izzy and I are reading and doing copy work through the Little House in the Big Woods.  She is doing well in her Saxon Math.

Noah and Gabe wrote short stories last week a la Edgar Allen Poe- and I’ll be happy to share those after we go through the first draft.

Noah and Gabe are reading Huckleberry Finn.

Gabe is finishing up pre-algebra with his tutor and will be ready to start Algebra I.  He is definitely on track to get Algebra I and II and Geometry done before he graduates and since he is not interested in a science or engineering sort of degree, that’s fine with me.

My kids are normal kids. They struggle in somethings,

From the kitchen…
Tuna noodle casserole tonight!
I am wearing…
Black athletic pants, Pink turtle neck shirt.
I am creating…
another busy week.

I am going…
to try to work some extra prayer time into my days.  Praying for:

  • Calvin as he navigates these waters of early adulthood – with some successes but also some troubling turbulance in his spiritual life.
  • Gabe – who informed me he wants to be a drummer and that’s all he wants to do.
  • Noah who is preparing for confirmation.
  • Izzy – who felt a little like an oursider at the youth group bon fire because she does not attend the day school.
  • Rosie- who has no fear – and that scares me.
  • Mr. Pete – who is always working.

I am reading…

Finding Sarah: A Duchess’s Journey to Find Herself
Dull doesn’t begin to describe it.

I am hoping…
to keep up with typing, school work and keeping the house up this week, working in some exercise and surviving the wedding I am working on Friday!
I am looking forward to…
the end of the wedding season – I have two more to do this fall (missing two cross country meets because of rehearsals – drat!!) and two in December.  I will have to re-evaluate if I want to continue after that.

Around the house…
getting my  clean classroom in order and organizing my books.

Pictures I am sharing:
I have been to three tag sales in the past month.  Between the three, I have been able to purchase big, beautiful comforters for my three sons.  The cost of all three together came to $20!
