1. As sometimes happens when different parts of my life start to intersect, this week has been surprisingly busy. We had our first homeschool meeting of the year on Wednesday night. By virtue of the fact that I simply took over the leadership last year – we still have a group. Mr. Pete says it was a “coup.” I’m not sure how it can be a coup when the former leaders simply quit when their term was up and didn’t even try to get new people into leadership positions- but for now, for better or worse, I am leading the group. Out of 100 families in our group, 12 showed up for the meeting which was held in a private home. Lots of people told me that they really enjoyed meetings in homes instead of schools, restaurants and libraries, and yet in the 6 meetings I have put together this was the lowest turnout! Still we had more than half of the group as brand new homeschoolers, so I am glad we were there for them and I will continue to brainstorm about the meetings.

2. Noah had his first ever migraine headache. It started Monday where he complained of his chest hurting and a headache. I thought his chest hurt because he had helped shovel dirt the day before and he isn’t use to that kind of activity. But then the headache got worse and by Wednesday he couldn’t sit up and was having nausea and vomiting. I took him into the doctor and I watched her give him the same kind of neurological testing I remembered my mom getting when she had her brain tumor. The doctor felt that this was probably an atypical migraine and gave him Imitrex. It took three of them four hours apart to get rid of the last traces of the headache.

3. So since he was just getting his appetite back by yesterday and his GI system was finally working right from both ends, I decided to have him sit out yesterday’s cross country meet. He agreed with me but he felt sad to watch his team race and not to be part of them.

4. I think Izzy would have been happy to sit it out with him.

6. Today and tomorrow I am in wedding hell. Three weddings have been scheduled for this weekend. I will be playing the flute for the wedding this evening. Then I have to wait until about 7:30 tonight to run my wedding rehearsal for the wedding that I have to run tomorrow at noon. How fun is that? I have been practicing pretty regularly for the three pieces I am playing tonight though but of course a few nerves will kick in before hand. I’ll be glad when it’s over.

Unfortunately tomorrow is also the first day of soccer and it will be the first day Izzy and Noah do cross country practice and then run over to do soccer – which I will witness in a dress so I can run over and do the wedding.

7. Our washing machine died mid cycle. It just stopped. Mr. Pete was so mad! He started sputtering about how badly made these things are and how they don’t last very long – but when I thought about it, I think we had had that washing machine for over 20 years!

Anyway, we were watching a special about 9/11 and I started to tell Noah about what happened on that infamous day 10 years ago. Mr. Pete smiled and looked at me, “Do you know where I was 10 years ago when 9/11 hit?”

I admitted that I didn’t.
“I was at the parts store getting a new timer for the washing machine!”

So I guess we can forgive the old Maytag for finally giving up the ghost!
