In 1958 my mother got married and moved across the country. These are the letters written to her, mainly by her mother, between 1958 and 1960. Others in the series are in my del.icio.us file.

My Grandma’s letter to Mom stopped during December and January 1958. I’m not sure if she didn’t write or if these were just lost. Grandma did make a trip to visit my mom in Christmas of that year, so there wouldn’t be any letters while they were together.

So to fill in I’d like to post some letters from others that my mom saved, particularly from my great-grandma Lowerta. This letter does not have a date on it but the envelope says October 14, 1959, when great-grandma would have been about 80 years old.

Dear ones:

Thank you all for the gift and lovely greeting. The children had a lovely trip and good time at your place. Dot made coffee last night. Sam’s (family) came down and Lucy and Dot made me birthday cakes, but all said you had such good coffee she tried to make it like yours. The boys played checkers till late. Orelyre had a test today and she was anxious to go home.

So glad you’re going to see Maryrose soon. Tell her “hello” for us. I’d love to see pictures of her darling baby and have her in my arms for a while, not to spoil her tho.

Hope you are all feeling good as I am. Hoping the weather will soon settle. I think it would clean up some aches and pains. Well, must write more later

Love from Mom

Daniel and Lowerta Leckrone
