In 1958 my mother got married and moved across the country. These are the letters written to her, mainly by her mother, between 1958 and 1960. Others in the series are in my del.icio.us file.

My Dear Daughter,
First of all, thanks for your letters. You made Calvin very happy addressing a letter to him.
Secondly I can’t find your Pioneer Policy here.I seem to remember saying something to you when it came and you said you’d take care of it. You must have it anyway your papers someplace. I’ve looked every place I can think of and no policy. Why did they cancel? As long as the piano is here, I don’t see why the policy couldn’t be in force, unless of course they canceled because of moving of other things. We’ll have to include it in our policy now.
Will you please tellmeus what you want for Christmas? As I told you we were thinking of an Electric Roaster, toaster, a rotisserie? It seems to me a roster would be nice. You could cook a whole turkey dinner in one. You won’t broil any meat on a wood stove. Course you can bake it or roast it I suppose but we want to get you something that will help you. Oh say, did you get an electric coffee maker? If you didn’t Grandma Leckrone gave Dad a coffee percolator that we had given Grandma and Grandpa for their anniversary. Anyway since you will have a wood stove it can perc on the stove and then it has a standard that you can place it on on the table. If you want it, I’ll pack it for shipment to TA. It is over very heavy aluminum. Be sure to tell us when you are going to move to TA so no mail will go to Chama.
If you want to, will you be able to get your job back or will Mrs. Presbyterian keep it? Gosh time seems too long. Guess I want you here pretty badly. Since you are giving up your job I hope you can stay a little longer than “almost” a week.
Are we ever having a blizzard today?! Not too much snow, but some but oh that blessed wind, it just never stops.
Say are you sure I didn’t give you that policy when I gave you your savings bonds? I do now I handed you the national policy.
Have you used the cookbook? I think i did a pretty good job of working the pictures, tho Father didn’t use all of them. Boy that Altar Society – starts things then Father D and I have to finish. It was quite a job.
The K of C is buying a new mimeograph machine. We had one demonstrated yesterday. It was a new A.B. Dick. Was it a honey! Father D. and I used the one at St. Agnes for the cookbook and I told Father I’d much rather use our junker instead of their $700 one. But this one is $425 and I just love it. I hope they buy that one. But there are to be three more demonstrations. I don’t know which ones but I suppose the Gestetner will be one of them but I don’t think any will measure up to this A.B. Dick.
Well I have a job now. Friday is re-organizing the altar society. Father had the women fill out cards stating the activities they are interested in. You should read some of them! We’ll know more when you come and will tell you.
Well, I must close now. By the way how is your arthritis? Doy ou feel it? Will you answer about the Xmas gift. We can have it shipped out direct, and if iti s damaged the company will push a settlement faster.
