This is one of those weeks when it’s kind of tough to find any small successes but here we go.

1. I didn’t freak when my mother called me in the wee hours of Sunday morning to tell me she needed to see a priest to be anointed. Sigh… This had been preceded a few days earlier when she had called the aids at the independent living retirement home to tell them she thought she was dying. It’s just so hard to process whether she is really dying or if she just feels so bad that she wishes she were! We go to see her doctor tomorrow and I plan to ask him a lot of questions.

2. I helped out a fellow transcriptionist with dictation from a lady doctor from India who speaks English as a second language (also affectionately known in the MT (medical transcription) world as ESL). And… I didn’t do too badly at it. Two years ago I had an account with a male Indian ESL doctor and I left more blanks that actual words. Now when I get that doctor I’m actually happy about it, and although I still usually have to leave a blank or two in a full page report, sometimes even Quality Assurance can’t even figure them out! So it was good for my own confidence to see that transferred over to another ESL physician and I’m feeling pretty good about it.

3. My lovely, talented and charming niece and goddaughter will be confirmed at the Easter Vigil this year and I will be her sponsor. I am so excited for her! And she has chosen Catherine of Alexandria as her patron saint (or Catherine of Alexandria has chosen her to patron – I think sometimes it works that way as well!) Mallory has studied the middle East in college and has visited Egypt before. It’s just a perfect saint for her. Now I am VERY excited about Easter Vigil!
