My oldest son Calvin did not read until he was about 12 years old. I wrote about his reading difficulties and the adventures we had in correcting his problems here.

Last spring Calvin graduated from the local digital academy. This fall he applied and was accepted into the Emergency Medical Technician course at our local hospital. It has been an intense few months. He has had to do more reading than ever before in his life… and more tests. Last night he got the results of his final exam and his practical.

I am relieved to report that he passed the written test with a respectable 85% and confidently passed the clinical/practical portion of the test. I am honored to report that he called me right away last night, as soon as he had his results. Mr. Pete and I are so proud of him.

This week he has to go to a testing center and take the national exam to be come a certified (or registered? I’m not quite sure of the terminology) Emergency Medical Technician- Basic. Then he will be able to work as an EMT.

I love that he found out and told me on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, because I think the Blessed Mother has been praying for him as well! I also see some significance on this happening on the Eve of Juan Diego’s feast day – the little saint who persevered.
