Yesterday, Calvin took the test to get into the Emergency Medical Technician program at a local hospital. They take a very small group in twice a year based on the Wonderlic test.  So who knows. Calvin is a notorious two-test taker. Which would be fine. If he didn’t get it this time, he could wait until January or we could look at some other options. He’s already taking about taking on a second job, which would be good too.

Unfortunately, he is losing his health insurance at the end of the month. Our carrier says that he has to be a full-time student to be covered OR Mr. Pete has to hire him as an employee at least 17 hours a week with a verifiable W2 form. Then his coverage would become $200 a month. $200 a month for an athletic, healthy 19-year-old. Unreal.

If he does get into this class, Calvin is looking at getting a loan to cover it. It would be under $1000 and would help establish his credit. I’m wondering how hard that is going to be?

So there a lot of grown up things going on for him over the next few weeks or so. Keeping fingers crossed that we can maneuver through all of this safely!

So I got some quotes from Blue Cross where he could be covered for as low as $50 a month with major medical. I guess Calvin is going to have to make that decision.
