I did my last wedding for a few weeks at church. This one was a lot of work, but the couple was very nice and a lot of fun! I helped her a lot with getting her printed program ready, so it was nice to be able to use my computer skills before the wedding. There were a lot of little kids in this wedding so I got to use a lot of my parenting/teaching skills too! Then after the wedding there was getting rid of the aisle runner and cleaning up all of the rose buds – so my housekeeping skills came into play too! I am a real bargain for $50!

I have had such a variety of couples during this past month. I did not see as much decolletage as I expected from the brides this time. It seems straps and little jackets may be making a come back. As a side note of interest of the four weddings I did, three had a foamy sea green as the color. Yesterday was a nice surprise with a raspberry shade!

This was also my last wedding with our current pastor as he retires next week. He has been around since Gabe was a baby. In fact he baptized Gabe. We have a lot of memories wrapped up with him and he will be missed.

Our new priest is younger than me which is a weird feeling. My internist is also a few years younger and that was REALLY strange when I was her oldest OB patient. I remember my grandpa once talking about how odd it was when all of the important authority types were now younger than him, but none of that was as disturbing as having a much younger Pope!!! Grandpa, I now understand what you were feeling!

Our new priest is a blogger (I liked that about him immediately!) He seems very devout and totally Catholic. I’m hoping he will give our parish a jump start and a new enthusiasm for our Catholic faith. I hope the politics and the burdens of running a school and some of our financial problems don’t wear him down and discourage him.

I mentioned that I gave myself a little panic attack last week after Calvin’s graduation. I think seeing Calvin’s transcript and diploma scared me a little bit for Sam. So I did what I usually do when I am troubled about something, I get on the internet and start doing research. After a few hours of reading homeschool high school sites (and getting a few books on the topic at the library) I feel much, much better about it.

I know Calvin got the education that HE needed to get and that HE wanted to have. Digital education is not for everyone and it was very difficult at times for Cal. But he just was not the kind of kid that could have sat in a classroom for hours without distraction. He knows that.

Sam realizes it too, and he also knows that he needs to develop some more self-discipline to get his work done. That is what we are going to be working on now! Finding the determination and focus within to be able to achieve goals and deadlines. If he can get that at 15, it will serve him well for a lifetime!

Today is Father’s Day. Mr. Pete wanted a copy of The Forgotten Man for Father’s Day.

He wanted the audio book because he will be able to listen to it at work or while he does his road route. Unfortunately it didn’t arrive in time for Father’s Day but he should have it next week. It’s been getting a lot of play on the Glenn Beck program and the author has been interviewed there more than once. I’m hoping I’ll be able to listen to it too with Sam and perhaps Gabe. It’s about the economics of the Great Depression and has applications to our current economic situation and sounds fascinating.

I’m hoping Mr. Pete will want to go on the bike trail later today and maybe a picnic! I hope all the Dad’s enjoy their kids and just have a great Father’s Day!
