My baby girl is going to be 3 in a few weeks – sob!!! So it is time to get serious about potty training!

I know some childcare experts really get bent out of shape when a kid is not potty trained by three, but my experience has been that if you start when they are old enough to understand things and communicate better, potty training goes much easier.

To facilitate the transition from diapers to underwear and going potty, I find it much easier if the child doesn’t wear any diapers or underwear, or pants for a few days while s/he is awake. If they just wear a long dress or T-shirt to be covered, they don’t have to worry about taking stuff off or down when they have to go… and kids REALLY don’t go to the potty by themselves unless they ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!

So Rosie has been running around sans anything under her skirt, but I encourage her to spend a lot of time sitting on her potty reading books, watching t.v. and even playing. Without having to fumble with clothing she can sit down all by herself and after she has a few more successes, we can start her on some big girl underwear.

Works for me!
