One of the things I do to make a little extra money is work as one of the wedding coordinators at my church. I get $50 to

* go over the what the couple wants for the ceremony
* be available to answer questions via phone or e-mail.
* run the rehearsal.
* show up about an hour before the ceremony to make sure everything is in order
* make sure everyone makes it down the aisle without a hitch.
* clean up after the ceremony

This month I have four weddings. Two of them are on Saturday!

So with my mind in “wedding mode” I was particularly interested in Jenna Bush’s ceremony last weekend.

I thought she looked beautiful, elegant and classic.

Can I tell you how many weddings I have co-ordinated where that has not been the case? I can usually get a feel for how things are going to be from the rehearsal. If the ladies of the bridal party comes to the rehearsal in strapless or tight fitting clothing more appropriate to an exercise class than a church, I know that we could be in trouble the next day.

At one of my weddings, the reader came up to the podium wearing something reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe’s birthday tribute to JFK

Might be okay for the reception, but definitely wasn’t okay for the church. She sure had the rapt attention of the alter servers that day though.

I see plenty of size 16 girls poured into size 12 dresses with miles of cleavage too. I always marvel at how Father can say the things he needs to say at the beginning of these rehearsals by looking over everyone’s heads, because it certainly isn’t safe to look much lower!

I understand that our diocese has issued guidelines for appropriate wedding dress. I haven’t seen them yet. I also heard that some of the brides were very concerned about them because they already had their dresses ordered. I haven’t seen those yet either… oh dear!

And while I’m sure I won’t see anything as… unusual as what SJP will wear in the new Sex in the City Movie, I am sure I will see plenty of decolletage like this.
