On a happier note my Christmas shopping is done and I think if we charged anything it wasn’t more than $50.00. Cash for everything! Feels so good!!

Last week I was praying and asking God to make me a better wife and mother, particularly to Calvin my 18-year-old son. And as I poured out my heart to God I mentioned that I really regretted getting him his own car because he has all but abandoned our family to hang with friends and his girlfriend’s family after swim practice and work. Not that I begrudge him a social life but I feel sometimes as if where Calvin is concerned, I am merely running a bed and breakfast.

And God heard my prayer…

and smote Calvin’s car!!!

On the way to school last week, the very day after I prayed about this, Calvin’s car just stopped dead. He called his dad and they were able to push it into a local parking lot and got permission from the owner to leave it there a day or so to determine how to take care of it. When Mr. Pete went back to start the car that evening he discovered that according to the oil dipstick, the engine was bone dry. Four quarts of oil later and the car started but with a terrible grinding noise and then with a puff of smoke it stalled again – the engine is kaput! We got $250 from a scrapper who happily took it away to car scrap heaven.

Gee Whiz Calvin, check the oil dipstick once in a while?
