For some reason that I am unaware of, my father’s family takes this feast day very seriously. Out on my father’s ranch is a small chapel. When I visited my father as an adult (first time I had been to his ranch since I was 15 months old) I was there on the occasion of this feast. A priest came out, the extended family gathered, and we had mass in that chapel. I thought that was pretty neat.

Now my father is gone as are his brothers. My first cousin defrauded my demented father and mother with a brain tumor the size of baseball and my sister and I lost our entire inheritance. A settlement got 2/3 of it back, yet my cousin lives on that ranch , takes in the profit, spent my father’s $70,000 in savings, and other than a lot of legal bills, we have nothing to show for it.

I imagine my cousin will be having mass at that family chapel today. I guess she still considers herself to be Catholic although she has some serious issues with the 4th, 7th, 8th and 10th commandments.

I will pray what I usually pray on this date and ask St. Anthony’s intercession – for justice. If not in this life, than the next.
