Father Joe writes an interesting piece on the MacFarlane divorce here.

I have to admit that I signed up for the e-mail alerts about the E5 fasting for men and Mr. Pete and I talked about it. But the bottom line for us was that although it’s fine to fast and sacrifice for one’s spouse, for a working man supporting a wife and six children, it just wasn’t practical. Physiologically a working man needs calories to support his body and sustain his effort. (Ever read Laura Ingall’s Famer Boy? Those men ate a lot, and although Mr. Pete is not a farmer, hauling instruments in and out of schools and dealing with customers has its own stresses.) So we didn’t ever try it. It didn’t make sense for us. I can’t imagine my grandfather, who was married for 50+ years and worked as a welder and a famer would have done it either.
