I guess Al Qaida did us all a favor yesterday by making their connection to Iraq excruciatingly obvious with the execution of an American civilian businessman yesterday. Although I have no doubt that Al quad operatives are up to date on what the American Media is saying about them, I wonder how they missed the part about that blurry connection being a HUGE part of the divisiveness in the United States over the morality of the Iraq War. With that connecting line not only being clearly visible now AND highlighted in blood one of the big objections against the war is now removed.

So the next question in my mind is how did they miss that? What was their motivation to murder this 26 year old businessman? They said revenge which of course is absurd. No matter how you look at it, the mistreating of Iraqi prisoners in NO WAY equates to decapitation.

The blunders of a few military personnel regarding the mistreating of Iraqi prisoners was simply an excuse to let the Al quad tiger roar. They let their guard down. They reminded us all once more their true nature. Many of us didn’t need that reminder. 9/11 is seared into our brain cells. Others, including Senators Kerry and Kennedy apparently didn’t get it or seemed bent on forgetting in their push to remove President Bush from the White House.

For all of our blunders, the United States and the coalition are still the good guys. When we screw up we own up. WE make our mistakes public, we beat ourselves up over it and we try to fix it. Al Qaida misinterpreted that in my opinion. They took all the angst over the prisoner abuse and thought they’d push us over the edge with an execution.

But we aren’t made that way. The brutality of the murders of American citizens over the past month, and of Nicholas Berg in particular I think have finally shaken something loose in our public consciousness. I think it’s going to be the turning point in this conflict. I think it is also going to be the turning point in this election campaign.
