Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

Confirmation letter to my daughterConfirmation letter to my fourth sonConfirmation letter to to my third son
I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

I am thinking...
about my mom, my sister, my best friend and just pondering life and winter and Lent.

I am thankful...
for the season of Lent and hoping to make the most of it this year.

I am Pondering...
Thinking a lot about Mr. Pete's grandmother.  A new Facebook page for Mr.  Pete's family started this week and I've seen more pictures and learned more about his family's past. One of Pete's uncles committed suicide and his death was just devastating to his mother. I just have it on my heart today to pray for Grandma Margaret tonight, although she's been dead since 1968 and I'm sure she is at peace with all of it now.  Still... what a horrible thing to have to live through and I just feel sad that she had to.

In the kitchen...
Going to make some blender bread today from my Joyful
 Cookbook - completely grain free!

I am wearing...
Black yoga pants, black T-shirt and a grey sweater.

I am going...
  • to walk or work out every day but Thursday.
  • Speak at the pre-cana conference on Saturday.
  • Record flute music for an upcoming CD. Here's a sample of our CD from a few years ago.

A quote to share...
"I closed my eyes and took in a big snort of air.  It was like someone took a old pot and poured about a hundred gallons of hot apple cider and a hundred gallons of hot coffee into it, then stirred eight or nine sweet potato pies, crusts and all, into that, then let six bit steamy meat loafs float on top of all that, then threw in a couple of handfuls of smashed potatoes, then boiled the whole thing on high.  This must be exactly how heaven smells!"
