Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

Confirmation letter to my daughterConfirmation letter to my fourth sonConfirmation letter to to my third son
I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

Simple Woman

Outside my window...
lent 2011

I am thinking...
about the life of a wonderful woman who died last week.  She was 100% Irish and Catholic.  She passed away on St. Patrick's Day!
I am thankful ...
that I had the opportunity to meet this lady and to be friends with her daughter for the past 15 years.  I am also grateful for my little girl, who always thinks that she can make my tears disappear with a big hug and a kiss.

From the learning rooms...
Helping Sam study for the CLEP test in General Science.  We are really concentrating on biology which seems to be a huge chunk of it.  Then earth science by the end of next week.  To complicate matters, Sam is now working part-time as a pizza delivery man.  But I think it is good for him to have to balance study with work. It will toughen him up a lot.

Gabe and I have been working painstakingly on his pre-algebra!  The kids and I have also been watching the PBS Civil War on DVD and reading Uncle Tom's Cabin.   Izzy and Rosie and I are reading
Little House in the Big Woods.

From the kitchen...
Sweet and sour chicken with rice
I am wearing...
Black pants, T-shirt and vest.
I am remembering:
Mama- always

I am creating...
some flash cards and worksheets for math tomorrow and planning what I want to go over wtih Sam tomorrow in CLEP prep

I am going...
continue with Kari Anderson's Fitness Formula and The FIRM's Complete Aerobics with Weights, being very careful to use a low step.   FYI the cost for my knee x-rays was over $700!  Waiting to see what the insurance will allow.

I am reading...

The Story of a Life for lent.

I am hoping...
to follow my lenten plans more closely.

But my plans for lent include
  • Daily mass at least one more per week but hope for two.
  • Bible reading
  • Extra spiritual reading.
  • Stricter adherence to the Divine office.
  • Rosary as a family.
  • Stations of the cross on Friday at Church.

I am hearing...
the buzz in my ears and the humm of my computer

Around the house...
