Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

Confirmation letter to my daughterConfirmation letter to my fourth sonConfirmation letter to to my third son
I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

I am thinking...
about preparing for Lent and trying to really get the most from it this year.  Now in my 51st year, I realize that I probably have more Lents behind me than in front of me - so if not now, then when?

I am thankful ...
that my knee is feeling better and hoping that I'll be over this stomach bug soon.

From the learning rooms...
Sam took a practice test yesterday on General Science and did not do so well.  He admitted to me that he really does not know how to study effectively.   So we are going to get up every morning and work on simply studying the things he has to know, and I'm going to start with biology because that is my strong suit.

From the kitchen...
Barbecue chicken with rice and salad.

I am wearing...
Still wearing my jammies - just not feeling very good today.

I am remembering:
Mama- always

I am creating...
some flash cards and worksheets for math tomorrow and planning what I want to go over wtih Sam tomorrow in CLEP prep

I am going...
to do more Leslie Sasson tomorrow. I have come to really enjoy the
5-mile walk.  I am hoping with one more week of babying my knee I can add some step-aerobics back next week.

I am reading...

The Story of a Life for lent.

I am hoping...
to actually get my home ready for Lent with a new table cloth and sparse decorations before Wednesday.

But my plans for lent include
  • Daily mass at least one more per week but hope for two.
  • Bible reading
  • Extra spiritual reading.
  • Stricter adherence to the Divine office.
  • Rosary as a family.
  • Stations of the cross on Friday at Church.

I am hearing...
the buzz in my ears and the humm of my computer

Around the house...
to actually get my home ready for Lent with a new table cloth and sparse decorations before Wednesday
