Originally, Pope Innocent XI started this special Feast Day in thanksgiving for the victory of John Sobieski, King of Poland over militant Islam. The Feast Day was taken off of the calendar after Vatican II, but replaced by St. Pope John Paul II in 2002, one year after the terrorist attacks on September 11.
