Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

Confirmation letter to my daughterConfirmation letter to my fourth sonConfirmation letter to to my third son
I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

I am thinking...
about my son, Calvin, who is headed to the coast of North Carolina to help the hurricane victims.

I am thankful...
that Calvin and Sarah made it through Hurricane Florence okay.  Also grateful that Noah made it back from The National Catholic College Cross Country competition last week.

I am pondering...
this entire imbroglio with Judge Kavanaugh. I remember the Justice Clarence Thomas hearings and how difficult it was to get him seated on the bench. I also kinda remember that the loss of Robert Bork gave us David Souter and I would hate to see something like that again.

I am also captivated by how well the Saul Alinsky tactics work.

I am going...
  • Walking, exercising, weight lifting and ab work as much as possible. I finally hit 3 miles. I'm walking a bit faster.
  • PrayMoreNovenas.com.
  • to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan recommendations and Intermittent Fasting.
  • Last year, I lost 5 pounds in one month by eating one meal a day with intermittent fasting. I've fluctuated downwards from there but haven't gained any back. I have been eating about 2 meals a day but this month I'm going to try to lose another 5 pounds before October 15. My ultimate goal is going to be to lose my mommy's tummy. What made me decide to finally try for a totally flat ab was Miss C. thumping on my belly while we were waiting in line at the store. I'm kinda done with that.
  • More flute practice in this week.
  • Prepare my labs for Wednesday for my science class.
  • Give my editor more information for my book proposal.

A quote to share...
“When you fast,* do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.17
