Outside my window...
Irene's funeral and May 1 2016 100

I am thinking...
there have been four hugs in my life that will always stand out in my memory.

Two of those were from my mom.

The first was during the frightful time my grandfather got really, really sick and no one knew what was wrong with him. The resident told us that he was afraid my grandfather was going to die. I remember my mother just grabbing me in a strong hug and we cried on each other's shoulders for a long, long time.

The second one happened during the last week or so of her life. The nursing home called to tell me that Mom had she developed a swelling in her jaw. When I came in to see it for my self, I saw that they had really downplayed it. The entire side of her face and neck were swollen.  I demanded that she be transported to the hospital. It was a good thing too because she had an infected gland in her neck and by treating her right away with antibiotics they were able to keep her airway clear and it spared her further suffering.

I remember when I walked into her ICU room, she was as weak as a kitten, but she opened up her arms and called me over for a big hug and thanked me for making sure she got the care she needed.

I am thankful...
that I had such a kind and caring mother. I'm also thankful for my strong grandmother. I know all of her examples weren't good ones, but I also know that the mistakes she made came from a place of good intentions, and that counts for something.

In the kitchen...
Mr. Pete made barbecued ribs for dinner last night- what a treat!

I am wearing...
Grey skirt, white knit sweater I bought in Michigan, and gray Sketchers.

I am reading...

Finished this one over the weekend sitting at the track meets - great read!

I am pondering...
the idea of Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner posing nude this summer. It's not just that he wants to be a woman - what is more irksome is that he wants to be a 35-year-old woman!  Seriously, when was the last time the world got all excited to see a naked 65-year-old lady?

I am going...
From the Learning Rooms...

A quote to share...

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” ―Washington Irving
