Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

Confirmation letter to my daughterConfirmation letter to my fourth sonConfirmation letter to to my third son
I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

I am thinking...
about my mom.  This is the dress she wore to my wedding.  That's Mr. Pete escorting her to her seat just before the ceremony. She came to love him as a son.

Mama at age 51, 6 months 8 days

Interestingly, she picked a long pink dress for my sister's wedding too.

I am thankful...
for this little girl right here - who celebrates her 16th birthday today!

She dazzles me.

I have...
a 16th sweet sixteen party to plan for Saturday!   It's going to include a lighted back yard and a bon fire!  The boys never wanted a big 16-year-old party, but Izzy does - and I'm happy to give it to her.

In the kitchen...
Turkey and potatoes tonight!

I am wearing...
Gray workout pants and a black T-shirt.

I am reading...

I am going...
  • to walk or work out every day but Thursday with Pfilates.  I walked today and saw an older lady about 1/4 mile behind me. Before too long she was passing me, so I decided to try and stay right behind her.  I couldn't keep up.  At the end of the walk I told her that I had been trying to keep up with her and complimented her on her speed walking.  Turns out she is 71 years old, and she walked 4 miles in one hour.  I clearly have to up my game!  I only got 3 1/2 in an hour.
  • work two weddings- one this weekend and one next. Then the third week I am the mother-of-the groom!
From the Learning Rooms...
We're enjoying a little bit of a break but Noah is still working on:
  •  British Lit and British History -with the Great Courses currently reading
  • Mere Christianity- by C.S. Lewis
  •  Instacert to study for CLEP test in Biology
  • Noah got an A- on his Shakespeare writing course with Bravewriter.

One of my favorite things...
June 2015 074
She likes to look at books before and after naptime!

I am hoping to ...
  • Get lots of flute practice done.
  • Organizing my office, classroom, and laundry.
  • Organize the birthday party.
I am looking forward to...

working on our rehab house.  This is what the front looked like after I hacked the bushes down.  We're actually starting to see what the front of the house looks like - and it lets so much more light into the home.  It also has a new roof!  Took the roofers only one day to get it all done.

The three of them got the bathroom demolished too!
