My Lent 2019 Book List Plans

Is this the year you really want to dive into Lent? Do you want to come out of this Lenten Season and truly feel that you've had a small share of living in the desert with Christ for 40 days? I know that I do. Maybe it's an upcoming birthday that's making me have more of a now-or-never type of attitude towards Lent. Or maybe I just acutely feel the necessity of truly modeling this for my children, and living it with my husband. Whatever it is, these are the books and resources I'm going to use this Lent to really LIVE the season from Ash Wednesday all the way through to Easter Vigil. Look them over. If something looks helpful to you, use it. If it inspires you, go with it. I hope all of these bless and encourage you.

I found a great article on the history behind the custom of receiving communion in the Hand.  For one of the members of the generation lost after Vatican II, it's a very interesting read:

Communion on the tongue helps to foster a proper sense of reverence and piety. To step up to a communion rail, and kneel, and receive on the tongue, is an act of utter and unabashed humility. In that posture to receive the Body of Christ, you become less so that you can then become more. It requires a submission of will and clear knowledge of what you are doing, why you are doing it, and what is about to happen to you.Frankly, we should not only be humbled, but intimidated enough to ask ourselves if we are really spiritually ready to partake of the sacrament. Kneeling means you can’t just go up and receive without knowing how it’s properly done. It demands not only a sense of focus and purpose, but also something else, something that has eluded our worship for two generations. It demands a sense of the sacred. Just like Peter, James and John before our Transfigured Lord, it challenges us to kneel before wonder. It insists that we not only fully understand what is happening, but that we fully appreciate the breathtaking generosity behind it. It asks us to be mindful of what “Eucharist” really means: Thanksgiving.

With Jill Duggar's recent Cesarean birth, a lot of cesarean articles showed up.

When c-sections are performed in about 10 percent of births, maternal and newborn deaths decrease, according to WHO. But when they occur in more than 10 percent of births, there's no change in the mortality rates. Yet, C-section rates continue to rise in wealthy countries, WHO said. In the United States, 32.7 percent of births are c-sections, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"Due to their increased cost, high rates of unnecessary cesarean sections can pull resources away from other services in overloaded and weak health systems," WHO said in a news release Friday.

I'm wondering if now that Obamacare is becoming more fully implemented, with the high cost of surgery, perhaps the rate of Cesarean will go back down.  That would indeed be one of the few benefits of the (un)Affordable Care Act.

One thing I've learned since going gain free and curing my ulcerative colitis - it's all about avoiding and reducing inflammation in the body.  This heart surgeon agrees!

Heart Surgeon on the Cause of Heart DiseaseIt Is Not Working!
These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.
The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.
Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.
Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.
Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.
Inflammation is not complicated — it is quite simply your body’s natural defence to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

This month marks the 103th anniversary of the Titanic's sinking.  Father Byles was the priest on that fated voyage and he now has a cause opening for sainthood!

Today, 103 years after his death, the first steps toward opening a cause toward sainthood for the priest have launched in his native England.
“The more I learn about him, the more I think of him as a saint,” said Father Graham Smith. With the support of Bishop Alan Williams of the Diocese of Brentwood, Father Smith is in the early stages of the process that can lead to Father Byles being named a “Servant of God”; then, with an approved miracle, the following step would be beatification for the hero priest.

As Providence would have it, Father Smith has been appointed pastor of St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Ongar, the parish which Father Byles shepherded for eight years. Just as providentially, Father Smith moved into the parish on April 14, the anniversary of the Titanic’s striking the iceberg in the North Atlantic just before midnight. He celebrated a Mass yesterday remembering Father Byles.

Be careful who you sleep with.  The DNA stays with you for life!
Keeping the DNA of sex partners for life

The conclusions of this study noted that the possible sources of male michrochimerism included, known pregnancies, miscarriages, vanished male twin, or sexual intercourse. This means, that through intercourse alone there is a potential for women to hold onto male genes and DNA within their organs and blood stream for their entire life!

Lastly, a woman named Kelly is suing her doctor and the hospital for an unnecessary episiotomy, that she begged him not to do and is suffering with issues now.

I have no words for this video.  Any woman who has suffered a birth trauma should watch with care because even almost 26 years later, I felt anxious watching what this woman went through.
