Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

Confirmation letter to my daughterConfirmation letter to my fourth sonConfirmation letter to to my third son
I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

Supreme Court on a roll!!! A good day to avoid your liberal-minded friends on Facebook

The Supreme Court of the United States has been coming down with GREAT decisions over the past couple of days - I mean - seriously, decisions that I never thought would go the right way, especially after this.

First they struck down the abortion clinic buffer, stating that it infringed on free speech.

Then they gave big unions a thump when they ruled that unions cannot force nonmembers to pay dues.

and lastly, the SCOTUS sided with Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood that they can refuse to provide abortifacient contraceptives to their employees.

And while I'm all tingly with glee, there's a lot of hate talk coming from my comrades on the left.

Here's how to deal?  When you find a friend whose political comments are just too much to take most of the time, or who continues to compare Viagra with oral contraception, do this -

  • go to your liberal friends' FB page.
  • Click on the button that says "friends" on their cover photo.
  • Make sure, "Get notifications" is not checked.
  • Try with all of your might to not click on the "unfriend" button.  After all, there must be some memory or value you found in their friendship in the first place right?  So focus on that.
  • Instead, click on "add to another list."
  • Now you can name your new list anything you want.  Mine is called "politically incorrect."  You could call yours "left leaners" or just "wrong"   really anything you feel comfortable and that puts a smile on your face!

I love my left-leaning friends.  But I don't want to read their crap every day and especially not on big politically charged days like today! Putting them on their own list, protects us all!! ; )
