Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

Confirmation letter to my daughterConfirmation letter to my fourth sonConfirmation letter to to my third son
I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

I am thankful...
the great family I married in to almost 34 years ago.

From the learning rooms...
  • Gabe and Noah are starting "As I Lay Dying" by Faulkner.

We are sort of in semi-vacation mode this week.  Concentrating mainly on math for Noah and reading and math for the girls. Gabe successfully completed his government class and now we are waiting for his grade.
From the kitchen....
Chicken pasta salad for tonight.

I am wearing...
Gray skort and great T-shirt

I am creating...
hopefully a sale of property that will close by the end of the month!  Just as I was putting it all in God's hands, some big progress was made!  The deed to one property that we didn't have finally became official and was sent to the house AND the surveyor was in to survey.  So I'm interested to see if my cousin will close his sale tomorrow or not.  Still putting it God's hands.

I am going...

  • walk every day
  • Get in a strength and cardio video at least three times.
  • Start organizing the soccer league I inherited.
  • Start organizing the support group.
  • finish straightening up my office.
  • prepare my notification for homeschooling next year.

I am reading...

This is a fascinating book. It starts out with the Old Testament way of education, through Christ's commandments and the early church - and how none of it mandated the creation of schools to teach children!   It's really giving me a new way to look at education in general, and Catholic schools in particular.

I am wondering...
how I am going to manage two kids on two different cross country teams, and managing a soccer league! Gabe is also preparing to move and I wonder how that is going to work out too.

I am Hoping...

  • That I can make a big announcement here by the end of the week!
  • that I have the strength to manage a homeschool group and a soccer league.
  • that Gabe makes good choices going forward.
  • that the property I am selling from my father's estate sells.
  • that I can endure all of the things I am called to endure - through Christ who strengthens me.

I am Looking Forward To...
upcoming family reunions.

I am hearing...
the buzz in my left ear, the air conditioner and the computer - all white noise!
