Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

If you were wondering what this new sign means on Facebook...

I started to see this pop up among my facebook friends today and I didn't know what the heck it meant!  So I did a quick Google search and found this. Basically it's a "pro-same sex union sign" since the Supreme Court is taking up the challenge to Proposition 8 today.

Most of the friends of mine that have this sign - I kind of expected to see with this sign.  But then there were others that I went to school with years and years ago that I had absolutely no idea about how they fell on the political spectrum - until they posted this.

Actually, I see it as a good thing.  I have a special list on face book where I place my more left-of-center friends so that if I post something that I think will be offensive or controversial to them, I can spare them from having to read it!! and on the other hand if I have something that I think will be of particular interest to them, I can make sure they see it!   So in this instance, it helped me to tidy up my lists a little more, and I always see that as a good thing. I want to do the heavy lifting on tough issues on the blog- not on facebook!
