Writing a letter to your confirmation candidate

It seems that one of the biggest events in confirmation preparation in this country is the letters of support to be given to the confirmation candidates during their mandatory retreats.

I have three such letters saved on this blog:

I've asked my children what they remember about the letter they got from me and their dad, and also what they remembered about the letters they received.
The answer was not much, or at least nothing specific. In general they were happy to have gotten a bag full of letters and there was a sense of feeling loved and supported. I guess that's the main thing - for them to have a sense that this is an important step in their spiritual growth, and that people they know, love and respect have taken the time out of their lives to let them know that! So here are some tips on procuring and writing letters for young confirmation candidates. Start thinkin…

Outside my window...
It is wet and muddy! A little like spring?

I am thinking...
about Mr. Pete and what a proud papa he was yesterday at our parish's presentation of Lessons and Carols. He had two sons in the parish choir, two kids in the kid's choir, a wife playing solo flute and a son playing drum - and a little 4-year-old girl who fell asleep in the middle of it!!

I am thankful for...
music in our lives. My side of the family certainly has enjoyed music for generations and Mr. Pete's family has as well. I am thankful we can pass it along in the church setting to our children as well.

From the learning rooms...
We finished  The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with Noah and Gabe last week. I want to start the
The Screwtape Letters
I worry that it might be too difficult for them and that even if they get the words they'll miss some of the subtle messages.  I am thinking that perhaps I might read it to them and have them follow along.  We are also reading
Gabe is on week two of his  10 day course with CurrClick.

From the kitchen...
Hot Spicy Chicken dip for tonight.

I am wearing...
I'm still in my concert clothes - black shirt, black pants.

I am creating...
fancy Christmas card envelopes.  I am having Izzy decorate each one!

I am going...
send my cards out this week and finish my shopping!

I am reading...

I am hoping...
Calvin and his friends, who took a bus to Chicago this weekend, have a good time and come back safe and sound.

I am hearing...
buzzing in my ears - again. but also the lovely Karen Carpenter singing about Christmas wishes.

Around the house...

everyone is exhausted!

A few plans for the rest of the week:
1. Walk or exercise tape every day.
2.  Get the house in order at least the basement and first floor.
3.  Put the Christmas tree out at Raphael's grave site and think of someway to decorate Mom's niche?
