Last week I was afraid that old age was creeping up on me at record speed. I just could not get the energy I needed to get some big things done around the house without feeling exhausted and needing to sit down. But one day last week, I decided to leave my walking shoes on instead of switching to the little flimsy shoes I usually wear around the house and voila! I felt like I had much more energy. It seems that I really do need the support of a good shoe these days for the very physical job I have of taking care of my kids and keeping a home.

I might add that this is not new information. FlyLady has talked about the importance of wearing lace up shoes in the home for a long time. That site talks about how it makes it harder to sit down and do nothing when you still have your shoes on! But I think there might be a physiological component to it too. When the feet and ankles are well supported the body’s energies can be spent elsewhere. I only know that I felt a lot better since I have been more consistent this past month with wearing supportive athletic shoes while I am working in the house than, going bare foot or wearing unsupportive shoes.

And since this is a kitchen organization issue, having good foot support makes it a lot easier to stand for long periods of time cooking, baking, or even cleaning and organizing in the kitchen.

So if you’re feeling sluggish, try it – it worked for me!
