Pentecost and Mother’s Day

Mother’s day is always a busy one for me! I try to have the kids remember each of their Godmothers and of course there is also my mom, so it takes some preparation! This year I bought each Godmother a card, although I let the kids pick them out this year. I have to say that Calvin and Sam really picked out some funny (but appropriate) cards. I think their Godmothers will enjoy them! I pack each card full of pictures of the kids too! All of those went out Friday – a little late, but I think of it as extending the holiday!!

Today was a very full and fulfilling day. This morning Sam and Calvin went to 9 a.m. mass so that Sam could sing with the choir. (His choir direct is giving him an A for his participation with the choir this year! Yeah!)

At 11 Mr. Pete and I went to mass and performed with the Praise and Worship Ensemble. It was a busy mass! It was Pentecost, so all of the 7th graders who will be confirmed in January were there for their first blessing and participation with the different church ministries.

There were also two baptisms, one of which was for the kid’s art teacher’s new baby! It was a real delight to be present for that happy event.

Then of course it was also Mother’s Day and the very end of mass we had a special Mother’s Day blessing for all of the moms.

After mass we had lunch and I spent some quality time with my daughters watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I had forgotten what a nice film that was. Knowing that it was made before computer technology really made it a marvel to view.

This evening, Mr. Pete and I joined my mom and my sister for dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day with them. My sister is Calvin’s Godmother so he sent along a card for her. My mom is a little hard to buy for although she always needs new clothes. I opted for a book this time though – mom and I share the same tendency to constantly need new reading material! This was Chicken Soup for the Grandma’s Soul: Stories to Honor and Celebrate the Ageless Love of Grandmothers (Chicken Soup for the Soul) and I think she will enjoy it.

Mr. Pete surprised me with a beautiful garden statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I saw it at Walmart and really liked it. Apparently other people like her too because Mr. Pete went to several Walmarts before he was able to get mine! So all and all, it was a nice family day with kids, friends and family!
