I’ve mentioned before that my mom has multiple myeloma. It’s a fatal form of plasma cancer. Although some people decline and die rapidly after diagnosis, many other people can and do live long lives post diagnosis. It depends on how aggressive the disease is in the individual. So far for my mother, her form appears to be either very early, or very mild.

My mom is the type of person though that if you told her that this disease would give her a red itchy nose, within 20 minutes she would have the reddest, itchiest nose ever! Her mind is very very susceptible to suggestion.

Her blood work so far looks good! The disease is NOT progressing aggressively. Yet my mother has the severe fatigue and the bone pain – all the symptoms of late stage disease. She had severe dizziness too – but removal of impacted ear wax took care of that problem!!

I’m convinced that mom is going to talk herself into an early grave regardless of what the blood work does. I suggested she get The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peele, because I read that in high school and it made an impact on me. But I’m wondering are there other Catholic sources out there about keeping a positive attitude? I’d be happy to get any suggestions.

Thanks!
