Gov. Bush and the cross

It’s pretty clear with the events of the past week, that the United States is under the control of the judiciary. The judges, on all levels, are the strongest, most powerful branch of the government. There are no checks and balances. Forget being a chief executive – being a judge is where it’s at! While we were campaigning for president, congress, and other elected offices hoping to turn the country and the culture back into the culture of life, the real danger was right under our noses, and the sad fact is we’ve already lost. The monster that is the culture of death has been growing and thriving and living in the judiciary on local, state and federal levels biding its time.

As heroic as the unusual actions of President Bush and his brother Gov. Jeb Bush have been, they have surprisingly failed to be the strong leaders, and protectors of the constitution that they are called on to be. In simple terms, they are letting these judges walk all over them, ignore their wishes, stomp all over emergency legislation and literally get away with murder.

In my mind, Gov Jeb Bush has a higher standard to bear – because he is a Roman Catholic. The Lord has given Gov. Bush an exceptional cross to bear – that of savior for one woman and her family. Thus far, also in my opinion, Mr. Bush has touched that cross, handled it, picked it for a while and then set it down. He seems afraid to embrace it, but that is what he is called to do. The only just, the only moral, the only holy option that he has as a Catholic, as a leader, as an executive, as the Governor of Florida, is to intervene in taking Terri into protective custody and let the political and legal chips fall where they may. In a very real sense he is called to a martyrdom.

It’s hard to be a Catholic Christian. Even harder I suppose to be one in leadership, but to my mind, this is his defining moment. This is where he picks up that cross, kisses and embraces it, or where he denies Christ. On Good Friday. The hand of God is in this. I pray he makes the right choice.
