Let’s face it. If you’re going to chose to be poor, then it helps to be smart about it! After selling a dress last week on eBay that cost me only $7.00 at an estate sale, I told Mr. Pete we had to get serious about buying stuff to sell on line. I’d like to make an extra $100 a month to start.

So Mr. Pete and I left the kiddies in the capable hand of our 15 year old – which wasn’t as terrible as it sounds. He had full use of the phone and the fridge, the kids were either playing video games or glued to the second hand t.v. and at 11, 9, 6 and 5 – they already know how to pour cereal and milk!! We just want to keep them away from matches and sharp objects and keep them in the house!!

So off we went with hopes of finding a wonderful treasure that would bring us mega bucks in an eBay sale. The first tag sale was pretty well picked over when we got there, but we did find to boxes of flatware for $1.00 each. Well, we didn’t really plan to buy anything for ourselves, but since spoons, knives and forks seem to disappear in our house without explanation, two boxes full of them (albeit mismatched and worn) seemed like a good deal! I also found two plates and a serving bowl that I loved- they had little cows on them which always remind me of my years growing up on the dairy farm. They were $0.25 each So we spent $2.25 on items for us, nothing for eBay.

Our next tag sale was equally disappointing and the prices were much higher too. They had one very nice American flag with a pole for sale, but they wanted $20.00 for it. If you remember last year I found a HUGE American flag at a yard sale for $15 and sold it on eBay for $30!! So I took a pass.

On the way home though we stopped at the Goodwill store. I don’t know why I don’t shop there more often. I found beautiful clothes for Izzy there and walked away with three perfectly good dresses – all for $3.00! That’s $1.00 per dress!!!

Nothing for eBay though.

So at the end of the day we had spent about $5.25 on stuff for us, nothing for eBay, and at least an 1/8 of a tank of gas.

This Better Living through eBay program isn’t going to be easy!!
